Elizabeth
Online
I
decided to once again do a basic Google search to see what was most popular.
The first site that showed up was Elizabeth’s Senator for Massachusetts page, which shows options of how Elizabeth can help you and her contact information. It also shows her Twitter account and the last 3 posts that she has Tweeted, followed by a small area where you can "like" her Facebook page.
There are also many searches that are trending heavily and one of these articles is written by The New York Times, titled: Hillary Clinton, Privately, Seeks the Favor of Elizabeth Warren. Another is an article by the Los Angeles Times titled, Forget it, Liberals: Elizabeth Warren is not running for president. Both of these articles heavily emphasize the debate of whether or not Elizabeth will be a potential candidate for the Elections in 2016. My research continues to show heavy debate on whether or not Warren will become a 2016 candidate.
Facebook
Elizabeth
also has a Facebook account that she uses roughly one to two times every week.
Her account has 1.3 million “likes” and consists of posts that make her more
relatable and many that show her support for different individuals, what they
stand for and what they are doing. She shows much support for others and shows
herself as more of a down to Earth individual. She also touches on many large
issues that the U.S. citizens are facing at this time, for example, the
Keystone Pipeline. I cannot say for sure that Elizabeth does not post on her
own behalf but I have been told that she does not, which is a popular trend when it comes to popular public figures.
Twitter
I was
surprised to see that Elizabeth uses her twitter account more frequently than
her Facebook account; maybe this is because I am a more frequent Facebook user
than Twitter. Nevertheless, Elizabeth posts on Twitter roughly one time every
two days or two times every other day. I found that she is much more focused on
political issues on her twitter account apposed to her Facebook. Warren has approximately
158,000 people following her Twitter account.
Elections of 2016
I found that a large majority of social media regarding Warren, at this time, encompasses the possibility of her running for the Elections in 2016. Many have also said that even if she does not run as president, it still gives liberal citizens a leader who is setting the standards for other candidates who have already announced their part as a candidate in the 2016 elections. However, Elizabeth has stated many times that she will not be running for President and still there is a large amount of doubt in the media.
I learned that Elizabeth's Facebook page has more than three times the amount of followers than her Twitter account does but she uses her Twitter drastically more and focuses more on political issues. Elizabeth should become more politically active on her Facebook page, seeing as how her follower base is larger, because this will allow citizens who do not use Twitter, such as myself, to get a better feel for her values and positions.
If Warren is going to be a potential candidate in the elections of 2016, she needs to announce her candidacy soon. Most of the media is a controversy over that possibility and a public announcement may help Warren seize these discussions. Warren also needs to find more ways to reach out in social media. Even something as simple as having a Pinterest can give the citizens a more personalized idea of who Warren is as a public figure.
